Central Texas College culinary arts students in the school’s Wedding Cake class won seven medals, including five first-place and top culinary student awards in the Sugar Art Show and Cake “That Takes The Cake” contest. which was recently held at Round Rock. The multifaceted event, organized by Capital Confectioners, is one of the largest cake shows in the United States.

Among the honors won by the CTC was the Best of Division-Culinary Student Award won by Rosa Carr. This is the fifth consecutive year that the CTC has won this award. Carr’s cake, a five-tiered wedding cake titled “Glistening Romance,” was intricately decorated with royal icing using the cornelli sotas lace technique, brushwork embroidery on piping accented with paper flowers, and embellishments. a bouquet of crystal. The cake also earned Carr first place in the Culinary Student Wedding Tiered Cake division.

Crystal Kniffen won first place in the Culinary Student Novelty Single-Tier Cake division for her cake titled “Congratulations Graduate Chef.” The cake included a plaque, diploma, gumpaste graduate cap and pom pom, chocolate and fondant modeling whisk, rolling pin, bowl and chef’s hat. Ana Rodriguez won first place in the Culinary Student Novelty Multi-Tiered Cake division for her cake, “Vintage Era.” The cake featured three stacked suitcases with a model corset vintage dress and Modeling and fondant chocolate shoes.

“Spring Bouquet” by Lan Griffin won first place in the Culinary Student Special Techniques division. It was a mix of flowers (roses, peonies and leaves) made of rice paper and gumpaste and a bottom tray draped in chocolate lace. Griffin also won third place in the Culinary Student Sweet Art Master Sugar Flowers division. Kimberly Waring won first place in the Culinary Student Small Bites division for “Winter Time” – a lemon pound cake filled with blueberries and strawberries.
