If you want to know who the pro-parents, pro-kids, and pro-freedom candidates are in School District 2’s upcoming school elections, here you go. The four candidates will speak at a luncheon this Wednesday hosted by Republican Women of Yellowstone County.
Lunch will be at The Elks in Billings on Wednesday, March 9. Doors open at 11:45 a.m.
If you’re wondering who to vote for in the upcoming Billings school election, here are the four candidates who have spoken out against school closures, mask mandates, sporting event restrictions, and more:
Shannon Johnson- Zone 3-North Billings-Heights
Chad Nelson – Zun 4 – Central billing
Kristen Gilfeather – Zone 5 – Center-West billing
Jon Von Langen – Zone7 – West Billings
According to the Yellowstone County Office of Elections, the school election will be held by mail-in ballot with a May 3 deadline.
If you want to know more about the candidates, Evelyn Pyburn wrote an article for the Yellowstone County News in December.
Last fall, following a school board meeting where parents believed they were not being heard by the board, a group of parents met in a park where “we decided we wanted to work together and we support each other. None of us have ever done anything like this before. We’re just working parents with kids and we’ve never gotten involved before and realized it was important to give parents a voice back,” Johnson said.
As you may recall, parents and teachers have spoken out overwhelmingly against mask mandates in Billings schools. The teachers’ union even voted against the imposition of masks. Here are photos from August when a last-minute rally took place to oppose mask mandates.
